Storms bring numerous calls all day - Aug 10, 2008

Shortly after the storms rolled into town our first call came in for 300 Calcon Hook Road for a 2 car accident with 1 vehicle possibly on fire. Engine9-1 along with 04-7B and Medic105. Crews contained some leaking fluids and awaited the roadway to be clear before returning to quarters. The next call came in around 1pm for a Fire Alarm at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, we were dispatched along with 16 due to Darby being out on a working fire. Engine9-1 with 6 made the response towards the hospital but we were returned shortly before arrival. After a long break a 3rd call rung out for 334 Greenwood, Sharon Hill for a dwelling fire. Engine9-2 with 7 quickly hit the street and after arrival found up a under control electrical fire. After a short bit the assignment was scaled back to Engine9-2, Engine9-3 and companies went available shortly after. The 4th and 5th for the day came back to back first Engine9-2 with 7 made the response to Norwood for the building fire across from Station 2. As crews were standing by a 2nd building fire was rung out for a building fire in Glenolden. Engine9-2, Engine9-3, Tower 5, Engine5, Rescue1, Telesquirt1 all quickly got released from the call in norwood and made the response. The assignment was held to Company5 and Engine9-2 for the investigation and shortly after all companies went avaliable. This brought to an end a very wet and cold summer day.

Sharon Hill Softball Wins Championship - Aug 4, 2008

The Sharon Hill Fire Company won the 2008 Softball Championship after finial win to make the finial score of 19-6 to make the count of the Series 4-1. The finial game was played at Havertowns home field and they played a good series however our team pulled out a victory.

   

Michael D. Reagan Jr. Lifeguard Competition - Jul 13, 2008

The First Annual Michael D. Reagan Jr. Lifeguard Competition took place today. Lifeguards from various swim clubs attended including Briarcliff, Carlisle, Primos-Secane, Springfield, and Aquatic. The Teams of Lifeguards competed in various events including Multiple Victim Rescue, Backboarding, Brick Retrieval, Firemans Hose Carry, Submerged Rescue. The event started around 9am and lasted till shortly before 1pm. Engine9-1 with 6 was on hand during the events as crews enjoyed the sunny weather with a cool breeze by the poolside.

  

Utility09-8a Finished being Striped and Lettered - Jul 11, 2008

The new Utility9-8a has finished being Gold Leafed, Stripped, and Lettered by Charlie Mullen and Associates. Charlie Mullen has been doing all of our trucks for numerous years and continues to do excellent work. Crews enjoyed their company for several days while they worked on our new truck. The Utility has Scotchlite on the inside and outside of doors as well and has Gold Leafing and Lettering matching all of our apparatus. While they were also here they resealed Engine9-1's gold leaf which was in need of it. Once again thanks to Charlie Mullen and associates for the great work as usual.

   

9 House Celebrates 4th of July - Jul 4, 2008

The day was a busy day for Engine Company 9 with a mix of all kinds of fun with 2 Calls, Borough Parade, Borough 4th of July Celebration, a BBQ, and finally Fireworks. The day started out around 10am as crews began putting finishing touches on the trucks for the parade. All of the Fire Companies vehicle went to the parade with the exception of 09-8a which is still being lettered and gold leafed by Charlie Mullen and Associates. Several other fire companies were invited and made the trip up including Folcroft, Collingdale #1, Darby #1, Lansdowne, and Mercy Fitzgerald EMS. After the Parade Crews headed up to the Borough Park to participate in the events and also compete in the races. Shortly after the events were complete the crews broke out the grill and started to BBQ at 9 House up until the fireworks. During the BBQ to assignments were stuck out first for a Fire Alarm in Folcroft in which Company 9 dumped house within seconds with all 3 Engines, and shortly after a small brush fire in the 400 block of Sharon was rung out in which Engines9-3 & 9-1 made the response. Later in the day as the sun set crews stoodby on Clifton ave and along the CSX tracks during the fireworks show although our services were not needed due to the rain giving everything a good soaking.

      

Crews Runs Unique Rescue Call - Jul 3, 2008

Shortly after crews finished cleaning the trucks up for the 4th of July the fire company was requested to make the response to Chester Pike and Foster to assist the Police Department. Engine9-3 and Engine9-2 quickly arrived to find a Car Carrier while in the process of being offloaded had a car slide off the track and get stuck due to the tires being deflated. Crews Shutdown Chester Pike Southbound while the car was being lifted back onto the truck. Crews utilized another Car Carrier to lift the wheels of the truck up onto the track and then remained on scene until the car was offloaded. A group of onlookers quickly developed as well as this is not a very common type of rescue and was very unique. Crews returned to service within 30mins and finished cleaning up the trucks for the parade.

 

Engine Co Runs 4 back to back - Jul 2, 2008

The afternoon started out around 3:00pm when we were dispatched to assist the Medics and Police with ventilation. Engine9-3 with 5 hit the street at reduced speed and remained on scene for approx 1hour before returning to quarters. Shortly after crews cleaned up and were talking after the call another assignment rung out. This time the fire alarm assignment was struck for 500 Sharon Ave for a fire alarm. Engine9-2 with 5 and Engine9-3 with 4 quickly hit the street. Crews remained on scene for approx 20mins checking for the source of the fire alarm and it was determined to be malfunctioning. Just as we went off radio a brush fire assignment was dispatched to the 1400 block of Chester Pike. A small mulch fire was extinguished by a store employee and the company returned to quarters to wait for the next assignment. The next alarm was rungout for another brush fire this time at the 1000 Block of Chester Pike to the rear of the Court House. Engine9-3 made the response and the fire was quickly contained and crews returned to quarters within a couple minutes.

Engine Co runs Building Fire with Entrapment - Jul 2, 2008

Shortly after 2:30am as crews were getting ready to head to sleep the box assignment was struck out for 1616 Forrester for the Building Fire reported to be a Garage. On the ticket was 76 (Darby Township #4), 77(Goodwill), 75(Briarcliffe), 09(Sharon Hill), and EMS Units. Engine9-2 with 6 quickly hit the street and was advised while enroute police were reporting possible entrapment of elderly female and fire in the basement. Engine9-2 arrove on scene and split crews with 2 men going to perform a search and 2 men stretching an attack line to the basement. Crews quickly located the victim and the fire was determend to be extinguished so crews setup Positive Pressure Ventilation while EMS checked the homeowner out. Companies went avaliable within 20mins and returned to quarters.

 

Engine Runs Early Morning Fire Alarm - Jul 1, 2008

Shortly after 3am we were dispatched for a Fire Alarm at 500 Elmwood, UPS for a fire alarm activation. Engine9-2 with 6 quickly made the response and arrived on location with alarm bells activated. Crews searched the large warehouse for the source of the fire alarm while awaiting emergency contacts to arrive and deactivate the system. Companies returned to the station after an hour on scene investigating.

Engine9-2 Runs Cover Series - Jun 27, 2008

Yesterday Shortly after Lunch as crews were getting ready to prepare for the softball game Engine9-2 was requested to relocate and cover Station 71 (Chester Heights) while they were out on a working fire in Aston Township. Engine9-2 and Utility9-8 with a total of 9 relocated to station 71 until they returned back from the fireground. And once again at 12:00 we were requested to relocate to Station 39 (Lower Chi) while they were out on a working fire. Engine9-2 and Utility9-8 with a total of 7 headed down to Station 39 for a bit until they returned from the fireground.
