This afternoon while crews were enjoying the nice afternoon weather the Full assignment was struck out for a reported Gas Leak in Glenolden. Early in the morning around 4:30am Engine 09-2 was dispatched to relocate to Station 71 (Chester Heights) for a cover up. This afternoon crews were alerted for a reported CO Alarm activation on Garvin Blvd, Sharon Hill. On the ticket was Company 9 and Mercy EMS units. After the annual 4th of July Parade Company 9 hosted the first Fourth of July Big Three BBQ which consisted of Companies 09 (Sharon Hill), 05 (Glenolden), and 01 (Folcroft). Also in attendance was the Hog Island Mummers who participated in the Parade. Crews and Families enjoyed food, drinks, and the fun of watching the little and big kids play in the Moon Bounce. Just after 2am the Assignment was rung out for an Engine to assist Medic06-7 with a cardiac arrest. Engine9-1 made the response with 5 in just 10 seconds after dispatch. Today Crews headed over to St Georges Elementery School to perform some fire prevention for several classes. Crews were asked by one of the Teachers who is also a long time member of Engine Co. 9. Crews helped with providing formal interviews for the students to learn about some of our firefighters. Shortly after 7pm Engine 9-2 assisted Lansdowne Fire Co with welcoming home LCPL Logan Innes, USMC. He was flown into Philadelphia International Airport and was given an escrot from the airport to a residence on Drexel Ave in Lansdowne Borough. Just after Night Set Engine Company 9 assisted Santa with the yearly Tree Lighting. Since there was no room for Santa to park his sleigh at the park he instead parked at Engine Co. 9 Quarters and hopped a ride on Engine 9-2. As usual on Halloween Night Engine Co 9 held a candy check for town residents and also gave out candy to visitors. Crews checked well over 150 bags of candy for broken wrappers, damaged candy, suspicious looking candy, or anything that could pose a danger to children. Crews also checked the candy with a Metal Detector just in case. Any candy that was taken from the kids were replaced with new candy purchased by funds generated by the Sharon Hill Fire [...]
Earlier in the day several members of the Fire Company voluntarily headed over to the location of the bonfire to assist in setup and preparing the field and pile of wood. Crews spent over 3hours in building the bonfire as to allow the Coaches to prepare the field for the big game on Saturday.
